Lady by the lake

By the lake she stands, with a heavy heart,
Thinking of the life that lies ahead,
An arranged marriage, tearing her apart,
And the love that she may never wed.

Her eyes gaze upon the rippling waves,
And her mind wanders far away,
To the love that her heart so desperately craves,
And the freedom that she longs for today.

She wonders if she can ever be free,
To follow her heart, to choose her own fate,
To be with the one she loves, and to be,
Truly happy, without fear or hate.

But the weight of tradition is heavy and strong,
And the pressure to conform, hard to bear,
And so she stands there, her heart in a song,
Of longing, of doubt, of pain and despair.

For the choice that lies ahead is not easy,
To follow her heart, or do what is expected,
And so she stands there, feeling quite queasy,
And her soul and her spirit, quite dejected.

But the lake is serene, and the sky is blue,
And the sun shines bright, on this fateful day,
And so she takes a deep breath, and she knew,
That it is time to make a choice, come what may.

For she is a woman, strong and brave,
And her heart is true, and her soul is free,
And so she decides, that she will not be a slave,
To tradition or fear, but to be who she wants to be.

And so she walks away, from the arranged marriage,
And towards the life that she knows is true,
With hope and with love, and a heart full of courage,
To follow her dreams, and to make them come true.
